Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE)

Premier Vascular specializes in treating fibroids using a minimally invasive, nonsurgical procedure called UFE. UFE is a minimally invasive procedure for uterine fibroids. It safely and effectively shrinks fibroids by blocking the blood flow to the fibroids. It is the most effective, nonsurgical, and least inviasive way to treat symptoms related to fibroids.

What is Uterine Fibroid Embolization?

Uterine fibroids are common, noncancerous growths made of smooth muscle that develop in or on the uterus. Uterine Fibroid Embolization is a procedure that uses imaging guidance to thread a small catheter to the site of the blood vessel feeding the fibroids. The fibroid's blood supply is then blocked, causing the fibroids to shrink and reduce the symptoms they are causing. The procedure is performed in less than an hour without a surgical incision, and patients return home the same day.

Benefits of Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE)

  • Minimally invasive = NO surgical incision

  • Outpatient procedure; NO overnight stay

  • Faster recovery time and reduced risk compared to surgery

  • Can treat multiple fibroids of all sizes/location at one time

  • Covered by most insurance providers

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the Uterine Fibroid Embolization procedure performed?

Uterine Fibroid Embolization is performed in our office using advanced imaging and minimally invasive techniques to shrink fibroids and relieve symptoms.

- Light sedation is used to keep you comfortable

- A tiny catheter is inserted through the wrist or groin, guided to the uterine arteries using real - time imaging

- Microscopic particles are delivered to reduce blood flow to the fibroids

- No large incisions — only a small bandage afterward

The procedure typically takes about 60 – 90 minutes, and most patients go home the same day. Fibroids shrink gradually over time, leading to improvement in bleeding, pressure, and pain.

Who is a candidate for Uterine Fibroid Embolization?

UFE is an option for women who:

- Have symptomatic uterine fibroids (heavy periods, pain, pressure, urinary issues)

- Want to avoid hysterectomy or major surgery

- Prefer a minimally invasive procedure with faster recovery

- Are not planning pregnancy, or want to preserve their uterus for personal reasons
